An online society for goths with a blog discussing our music, fashion, and literature. At The Goth Society, we pay homage to the darkly inclined and macabre interests endemic to our inner spheres.

About the Creator

Greetings, ghouls and fleshly specters! My name is Elle (known online as The Velveteen Victorian), and I am the creator of The Goth Society. I discovered goth music when I was 15, but it took several years after that point for me to really connect with the subculture due to my restrictive upbringing. I love gothic rock, darkwave, and ethereal wave bands, but am reduced to naught but a starry-eyed, gelatinous life form when I hear any goth or goth adjacent music. My gothic fashion proclivities place me, most often, in the Victorian/Romantic vein (I need my velvets, laces, and crinolines!), though I do not limit myself to any one style and have many eras, influences, and historical inspirations reflected in my wardrobe. I read about 250-300 books per year, including the ambrosial realm of gothic literature… and literally everything else.

I originally started this site as a general geek platform, but quickly found that all I really wanted to talk about was the goth subculture that means so much to me! This blog will now officially feature mostly* goth esoterica, but occasionally might drift into the inexact nebula of darkly inclined territory. After all, I do love talking about DnD!

In addition to my passion and interest in the goth subculture my interests include, but are not limited to, ghost hunting, making Halloween into a lifestyle, watching anime, studying subcultures, being obsessed with 80s media and the subsequent retrowave movement, playing DnD, caring for exotic pets, studying paleontology and digging for my own fossils, cosplaying, wearing vintage clothing and historical costumes, LARPing, and reading, writing, and collecting books. As an autistic person, I have many special interests, and it feels so good to be able to share what I know with others and to have them reciprocate their wealth of knowledge and experience(s) in return!

Thank you for visiting The Goth Society and for being part of our growing community of goths, subcultural nerds, and darkly inclined aficionados.
