A modern gothic suspense novel ~
Even if the 90s-era melodrama in gothic novels or stereotypical novel about vampires who hate what they are have turned you off to the gothic genre, this book can become an exception (and it isn’t about vampires). Bookishness, the supernatural, and dark family secrets all come together in this 2006 Setterfield story that truly stands out from the rest. I have read so many gothic novels and darkly inclined books that only the unique stories stick out… this is one of them!
